The email below was sent 12/16/21:

Hello Hage families,

All Hage students that were in attendance today, Thursday, Dec. 16 received a At-Home COVID-19 test kit.  Please check your student(s) bag. The information below was sent yesterday from our district, please review:

San Diego Unified School District is providing a kit of two COVID-19 antigen rapid tests for all students to self-test at home prior to returning to campus after winter break in January.

Every student will receive an iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kit from their school between Wednesday, Dec. 15 and Friday, Dec. 17.

We know many students will be traveling or gathering with friends and family over the winter break, and with a recent up-tick in case rates nationally and the new omicron variant, that means students may be exposed to COVID-19. These at-home rapid tests will help all of our students and their families have greater peace of mind about returning to school safely in January.

HOW TO USE THE TESTS
Please note that any student who has had a COVID-19 infection in the past 90 days should not use the test kit.  The test may be positive because of a prior infection.

  • Students should take the first test on Friday, December 31 -- three days before their return to school.
  • Students should take the second test the morning of Monday, January 3 before coming to school.
  • If the test is negative, your student feels well, and has no COVID-19 symptoms, they are cleared to return to school!
  • If your child DOES have any COVID-19 symptoms and/or has HAD a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, please keep them home and call your school for next steps before their return.
  • If either test is positive, keep your child home and contact their doctor and school right away to follow any further instructions before returning to campus.
  • Additional details on how and when to use these self-administered COVID-19 tests can be found on this instructional flyer.

Combating COVID-19 takes a multi-tiered approach, of which vaccination and regular testing are key elements. San Diego Unified is asking all students, regardless of vaccination status, to take this extra step and test themselves twice before returning to school as an additional layer of protection.

In addition to these at-home rapid antigen COVID-19 test kits, the district is encouraging families to go back to the basics of health and safety precautions this winter break. That means washing hands frequently, avoiding large crowds and wearing masks.

Additionally, we encourage families to take advantage of the two weeks off from school to get vaccinated if they have yet to do so. Families can visit MyTurn.ca.gov for information about getting a vaccine through walk-in and scheduled appointments during the break. Students and their families are encouraged to visit the district’s COVID-19 Vaccine website for details on opportunities to get vaccinated for free at school sites in January.

Students who miss the distribution of the COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kits can get tested at school the first week back in January by opting in to regular, on-site testing through Responsive Lab Partners. To opt in to testing, go to the Primary Health Portal to register for an account for your child. Please sign the consent in the portal and select the school that your child attends.

SSC and SGT Background:
The basic principle underlying the establishment of the School Site Council and Site Governance is that those individuals who are most affected by the operation of their school should have a role in the decisions regarding how their school functions.  This involvement occurs through the development of a school improvement plan, including a budget which is reflective and supportive of the plan, the continuous review of the implementation of the plan, the assessment of the effectiveness of the plan, and the ongoing review and updating of the school plan.

The primary task of the SSC is to ensure that the school is continually engaged in identifying and implementing curriculum and instructional practices that result in both strengthening the core academic program and ensuring that students have access to and success in that program. The SGT is charged with making recommendations and decisions regarding school operations.

Composition of SSC and SGT:
The council is composed of the principal and teacher representatives selected by the teachers at the school; classified personnel selected by their peers; and parents of pupils attending the school who are selected by such parents.

  • Fri. Nov. 5: Our Military Appreciation Event is postponed.  A new date will be shared soon.  We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

  • Mrs. Braidic/Mrs. Gage's 3rd graders are in SECOND at 57%.

Week 2

This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message and updates for the week.  I want to start by thanking all of our Hage Panthers for an amazing start to our school year.  We had a fantastic first week connecting with our students and families.  We know that our connections and relationships will be a driving force to help us overcome any challenge.  While we may have uncertainty in some areas of life, we can control how we choose positivity, communication, and value our bonds.  We got this Panthers!  Here's what is happening.

Lastly, I would like to thank all families for your patience and effort during arrival and dismissal; each day last week seemed to get better.  We are currently averaging around 12 min for the campus to be clear at the end of the day.  That is amazing!  We are always evaluating our systems and will make adjustments as needed.

Reminders for all families:

  • Continue to be patient and courteous to others during arrival and dismissal.
  • Parent Portal info went home this week.  Please sign up and complete the COVID testing Opt-in/Opt-out form.  All families must complete this form to acknowledge (yes or no) by Sept. 10.  This info will help us keep more students in school, plan for testing, and staffing.  https://sandiegounified.org/covid-19_status/c_o_v_i_d-19_testing
  • Testing Information for Students

All families are now required to make a choice on Covid testing at the start of the new school year. Every family must complete the below form and submit their response online at this time. Free Covid testing in school not only helps prevent the spread of the virus, but it also helps more students stay in school and continue their education.

To opt-in for testing for your child, please complete the COVID-19 Testing Acknowledgement Form on PowerSchool. Please Note: A PowerSchool Username and Password will be required to complete this form. If you do not have the Access ID and Password for your student, please contact your student's teacher or Hage's Main Office @858-634-7700.

If you prefer filling the form out on paper, please complete and turn it into your school's front office: English | Spanish | Tagalog | Vietnamese | Arabic | Somali | Swahili

See job aidEnglish | Spanish | Tagalog | Vietnamese | Arabic | Somali | Swahili or video below for instructions on how to complete the COVID-19 Testing Acknowledgement Form.

Week 1

On behalf of our Hage staff, I want to extend all Hage Panthers a warm welcome as we start our 21-22 School year tomorrow @ 7:30 AM.  This is an exciting time as we welcome students back on campus 5 days a week for in-person learning.  This first week will be dedicated to establishing connections, routines, and communication.  Some reminders for a successful start:

  1. Get a good night's sleep tonight.  I recommend getting a nice walk in tonight if you can to discuss feelings and school related information.
  2. Wake up with plenty of time to get ready and enjoy a hearty breakfast.
  3. Walk to school or carpool if possible to reduce traffic.  The first day is our busiest day of the school year.
  4. Pack essentials: Labeled Water bottle (reusable preferred), snack (extra snack is good just in case), extra mask, recommended supplies, and backpack.
  5. Discuss who will pick up your student and location to meet.
  • Parents/Caregivers: Your student will pick up on your energy.  Put on a brave face, be confident, and positive.  We got this!  We will have many staff members ready to help if needed.
